destructivator

chris roper’s destructivator is a swell-as-hell little shoot man game whose sprites remind me, in the best ways, of lode runner, jetpack, and probably a bunch of games i can’t name right now. the kinetics of blasting these little pixel men and dodging their return fire is entirely satisfying.

  1. I’m reminded of Turrican in parts, myself. This is so solid. I love how thrilling it actually is, in all its simplicity.

  2. Personally, I found it underwhelming. Loved the lode runner visuals, but that’s about it.

  3. Jetpack has the curious distinction of being the first game I ever bought for myself. Up until 1994 every game I’d acquired was purchased by someone else on my behalf; that year I found Jetpack in my grocery store’s software bin, of all places, and I purchased it with some birthday cash.
